Trail work on the Lake Mansfield Trail and the Long Trail Taylor Lodge to Puffer Lodge. We had 9 participants. We cleared the trails with 3 main groups. ,It was a hot day and we were on the trails for 7 hours (a few had to turn back earlier), but it was a good work day. A number of trees were cut and lots of clipping done plus some water bar clearing/improving. Participants included: Pam Gillis, John Sharp, Fred Royce, Lisa Hardy, John Pennucci, Rick Manning, Ted Albers and Diane Stevens.

Trail work on the Long Trail Jonesville to Bolton Notch Road. Very good turnout with 12 participants and good weather. We split into 2 groups, meeting at the beaver pond. Trail in pretty good shape except the beaver pond stream was hard to cross and no easy way to fix that. We saw a beaver swimming around (just the top of his head)! Participants: Pam Gillis, John Sharp, John Pennucci, Rick Manning, Forrest Aldrich, George Long, Keith Morgan, Lisa Hardy, Phil Hazen, Ryan Bean, Sue Girouard, and Jennifer McDonald.

Mt.Philo

It was a gorgeous day with clouds lifting as we approached the summit. We enjoyed admiring the beautiful trail work on the hike up. Though a lower elevation peak, the steep hike had our hearts pumping and lungs working. The views from the top were refreshing as we saw early signs of spring. We enjoyed slices of banana bread, while Triggered mingled with other dogs Piper Christie (3 months old) enjoyed her first hike with the Green Mountain Club! As did Jan and Russ Decoonman!
Attendees: Jan and Russ Decoonman, Larry Gagne, Taylor Christie, Piper Christie and Trigger. Trip Leader: Kelley Christie

Leaders: Pam Gillis and John Sharp
Other participants: 8
Cleared Lake Mansfield to past the summit of Mt. Mayo. A lot of the participants left early, so it was a long day for the rest of us. But we got the work done and the weather wasn't bad.
Pariticpants included: Rick Manning, Scott Springer, David Feurzeig, Zeke Benshirim, Jacob September, Zoey November, and Annelies McVoy

For our Mt. Abe Hike on January 17th, we hiked up the Battell Trail. It's hard to say what the conditions will be on February 7th. People do use that trail but if there is new snow you could end up breaking trail. When we hike Mt. Abe in the winter we always bring snowshoes just in case and we carry or wear microspikes or crampons in case it is icy, especially near the top. On the January 17th I used microspikes the whole way, others wore snowshoes the whole way and at least one person wore just hiking boots. So, it depends on personal preference as well as the trail conditions. Good luck.

Hi Folks,
The Mt. Abe hikes looks great.
What trail did you take?
I am hoping to come up Feb 7 to snowshoe the Battell trail as far as I can manage, but am wondering about trail conditions. I might be solo and will not be able to break trail the whole way, so I am hoping others have been on it recently. I am also wondering about the piece to the summit from the Battell shelter. It sounds like crampons might be in order, but you did not mention them in your report. I am not obsessed with the summit, but with being outside, peaceful and getting a good workout. Thanks for any info.
I hope this is OK to post.
