Five of us met at the Richmond Park and Ride at 6:00 AM to set out for our ascent of Mt. Moosilauke. We met up with one other person at the trailhead and began our ascent.
The Moosilauke Gorge Brook – Snapper Loop is a moderate ascent due to the easy grade of the trail. For our outing the weather down low was in the 40’s with some wind which made for a comfortable ascent. Upon reaching the tree line the conditions rapidly deteriorated. Winds increased significantly into the 20- 30 mph range and temperatures dropped bringing the wind chill temperature to roughly 0 degrees. We didn’t spend much time on the summit plateau due to the frigid conditions and reduced visibility, but we enjoyed the challenge of the conditions.
We made our way off the summit, took in some snacks, and were soon on our descent back to more hospitable conditions.
