Outings for June 2022 (updated, 6/23)

6/4 (Sat) Mt. Abraham
We’ll hike the Long Trail north from Lincoln Gap to the summit of Mount Abraham. There are some rocky scrambles near the summit. Moderate to difficult hike. Moderate pace. 5.2 miles. 1600′ elevation gain. Jill George, jillghiker@gmail.com.

6/18 (Sat) Franconia Ridge Loop (NH) – CANCELED
Canceled due to forecast 60-80 mph sustained winds with gusts to 100 mph (wind chills to zero).
We will start from Lafayette Place East (or West if East full) to hike up Falling Waters to Little Haystack, then across the Appalachian Trail ridge to Lincoln and Lafayette peaks before descending Old Bridle Path. This is one of the most scenic hikes in New England which means it will be busy. An early start will ensure a better experience. Difficult hike. 9.3 miles. 3800′ elevation gain. Group limit 10. Chris Luczynski, frogged@gmail.com.

6/19 (Sun) Cliff Trail Loop
Limber up! The Cliff Trail is a rugged, 1.1 mile long, triple-black-diamond rated path that parallels the Long Trail on the eastern side of Mt. Mansfield. Loosen up because the Cliff Trail presents ladders, boulders, and rock slides to press through- overall, plenty of scrambling! Also, beautiful scenery, the Cave Of The Winds, a rock face called Wall Street. We will meet at the Barnes Camp parking lot or Stowe ski area parking lot across from the Barnes Camp. Both are located at the gate on the Stowe side of Rt.108. From Barnes Camp we’ll follow the Long Trail south for 2.2 miles until it intersects the Profanity Trail. We’ll either take the Profanity Trail for another 0.5 miles or continue following the Long Trail up to the highest spot in Vermont, The Chin, 4,395′. Either way takes us back to the Long Trail and another 0.2 miles to the rugged, 0.8 mile long, Cliff Trail. After the Cliff Trail we’ll head down the Toll Road for 0.5 miles and then the Haselton Trail for 1.6 miles back to our vehicles. Total Distance: 6.8-7.1 miles. Elevation gain 2600′ or more. Afterwards: we can meet for eat and drink at Idletyme Brewing @ 1859 Mountain Rd., Stowe. Dean Wiederin, deanwiederin8@gmail.com or 802-233-1398.

6/25 (Sat) Mount Hunger & White Rock
This hike is canceled due to trip leader illness.
We’ll climb the Waterbury trail to the summit of Mount Hunger, taking a side trip to the summit of nearby White Rock Mountain on the way back. Difficult hike. Moderate pace. 6.5 miles. 2500′ elevation gain. Group limit 10. David Hathaway, david.hathaway.78@gmail.com or 899-9982.
