The Burlington Section (Paul Beliveau, Dave Hathaway, Ted Albers) and five other GMC volunteers from various sections completed a three-day chain saw training conducted by David Birdsall from Northeast Woodland Training based in Middletown Springs VT. The GMC sponsored the training.
Thanks to Lorne Currier, GMC Volunteer & Education Coordinator for organizing this and a another training later this summer. The training was held at the Chittenden Brook Campground near Rochester VT east of Brandon Gap. The training was intensively ‘hands on’ and centered around the “Game of Logging” which is a a no-nonsense curriculum teaching chain saw skills, developed in the 1960s by Soren Eriksson, a Swedish logger turned training instructor. The program breaks apart saw work into steps that are practiced throughout the course. This training is a great help in ensuring volunteer GMC trail maintainers understand and use chainsaws properly and efficiently which lead to safe usage.
