This hike was pushed one day out from Saturday to Easter Sunday April 20 th on account
of rain the day before. Two of us met at 9:00 AM in the Williston REI parking lot to
carpool to the trailhead. The two of us drove a short way to meet up with the rest of the
hikers at the Sucker Brook Hollow Trailhead off Route 2A. There we met another 4
attendees, making the group 6 in total. There were 3 no-shows and one late
cancellation. We set off at 9:30 AM towards the overlook via the Sucker Brook Hollow
Trail. The day started a little overcast but got sunnier and clearer as we progressed on
the trail. While on the trail we spotted hidden Easter eggs, children Easter egg hunting,
and many beautiful flowering liverwort plants. The view from the overlook was quite
nice, and there we stopped for a quick snack before descending the Five Tree Hill trail
towards Mud Pond. The trail conditions were remarkably dry and good considering the
previous days’ rain. Once at the entrance of Mud Pond we walked a little down the
unpaved Sunset Hill Road to look at a classic scenic Vermont red barn and farm. After
this we ate some Oreos as a snack and headed back to the parking lot going the same
way we came. We concluded the hike at 12:30 PM. In total we hiked 4.7 miles with 1100
feet of elevation gain and consumed 7 Oreos. Participants: Steve (new member), Andy,
Linda, Phil, Justin, and Michael (trip leader).
