After meeting at Richmond park & ride at 8:30, folks drove to Bolton Valley and divided into two work groups:
LT from junction of Raven’s Wind South to North Ridge
John Sharp was our clipper extraordinaire with much to do. Ira was our H2O bar specialist w/ many wet spots, which he took care of in his usual energetic style. Jonathan was using the Silky saw and swamping too. We had 3 blowdowns requiring use of the chainsaw, again a great team effort as the trail is now looking very passable. Despite the monsoon cycle we seem to be in, our spirits remained high given the somewhat soggy nature of intermittent heavy and light rainfall. We even had a few glimpses of sun, with the clouds moving by quickly and breaking up ! Refreshments in the Bolton ski area parking lot gave us just enough time before the next drenching. Just after I dropped Ira off in the parking lot @ Richmond Park & Ride, very suddenly a hailstorm arrived … hail the size of dimes pinging off the car and pavement. Again, great timing and another great volunteer effort. Work crew: Ira Powsner, Jonathan Breen, John Sharp, Pete Saile (leader).
Long Trail between North Ridge Ski Trail and Buchanan Shelter
Clipped back brush, cleaned out waterbars, cleared a 7″ diameter blowdown with the chainsaw and a smaller one with hand saws. No major issues. Did a quick look around Buchanan shelter and it also seemed in fine shape. Our third wet Saturday in a row, with thunderstorms on and off all day. Fortunately we were done just before the hail started. Work crew: Scott Albertson (leader), Dan Dickinson, Clayton Cameron, Tim Welsh.
