After a group of late cancellations, four of us met at the Stevensville trailhead at 8:30 (actually, everyone was early). The lot was almost full, but we all found spots. I hadn’t opted for my usual meeting place of the Underhill Historical Society because they are holding open houses every Saturday until September 16, and didn’t want to fill up there lot. It was warm and hazy with smoke. as we started up Nebraska Notch at 8:25. I’d been expecting the wildfire smoke to have diminished, but instead it was worse, and when I got home I saw that the air quality had been very bad all day. Oh well. None of us seemed to have problems with it. We reached the Long Trail junction around 9:20 and Butler Lodge around 11:30. There we stopped for some lunch and a little map and compass intro. There is normally a nice view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks from the porch, but we could see neither due to the smoky haze, and could barely see the foreground hills in Jericho and Westford. We got back to the cars around 1:10. Participants: Helena Nicolay, Nancy K., Kyle Sargent, David Hathaway (leader). Photos: David and Helena.
