After moving the hike from Saturday to Sunday due to a forecast of hazardous travel conditions, eight of us met at the Cambridge park & ride at 8:30, and took three vehicles with AWD,m good tires, and good clearance to the winter parking area at the end of Codding Hollow Road. As it turns out, the road was snow covered, but well plowed and mostly sanded, so we probably could have made it with most cars. We started up a little after 9 under cloudy skies with temperatures in the 20s F. The trail was unbroken, so we wore snowshoes for the whole trip and took turns breaking trail. We very temporarily misplaced the trail a few times, but took only short detours before getting back on track, and blocked off our errors with broken branches on the way back for the benefit of other hikers. The ice formations were new to most of the group, and many (many!) pictures were taken. There was evidence from blocks of ice on the ground that earlier ice formations had fallen during some of the many thaws this winter, but everything looked stable when we were there. We reached the Laraway Lookout around 12:30 where we had lunch and lookout out on a 180 degree view of the inside of a cloud. We then retraced our steps (easier with the trail already packed) to reach the cars a little after 2.
