Camels Hump Loop from Duxbury
Cancelled due to early mud season.
We’ll hike a loop over Camel’s Hump via Monroe Trail to Long Trail south, up over the summit, then follow the Alpine Trail back to the Monroe Trail. Difficult hike/snowshoe. Moderate pace. 7.4 miles. 2600′ elevation gain. Jill George, email@example.com.
4/9 (Sat) Paddle the LaPlatte River Marsh Natural Area
The water in the LaPlatte should be fairly high this weekend. But no guarantee! We will paddle around the Laplatte in Shelburne (a Nature Conversancy property.) Length and duration to be determined by group. Use this as a chance to learn about this unique river shore area, a habitat for migratory waterfowl, beavers, etc. The marsh area is located at the end of the LaPlatte River, which we will attempt to paddle up if not blocked by deadfalls etc. The Laplatte runs 16 miles from Lake Iroquois to Lake Champlain. The lake shore area is regularly flooded when the lake level rises – the best time to go, as one can paddle through stands of Maple and Willow if conditions are right. A fairly long ride, but with very easy grades. Moderate bicycle. Moderate pace. 35 miles. Group limit 10. David Hathaway, firstname.lastname@example.org or 899-9982.
