8/7 (Sun) Duxbury Window
This short Long Trail hike starts at the trailhead on Duxbury Road near the Winooski River at the lowest point on the LT. The trail follows Bamforth Ridge, one of the flanks of Camels Hump, for about 1.6 miles (one way, gradually up – no rocky scrambles). This is not a summit hike, but the woods in this forest are wonderful and you will be rewarded with a northeast view along the Winooski valley through a cutout. 8/13 (Sat) Mansfield Ridge
From Underhill State Park we’ll follow the CCC road to it’s end and then climb Maple Ridge Trail to the Forehead. We’ll then follow the Long Trail north along the Mansfield Ridge to the Chin (the summit), and return along the Sunset Ridge Trail. Difficult hike. Moderate pace. 9 miles. 2600′ elevation gain. 8/20 (Sat) Lamoille Valley Rail Trail bicycle
This will be about a two ½ hour bike ride starting in Johnson (mile 56.2 on the rail trail) to Morrisville (mile 48.4) and back with an important lunch stop at Lost Nation Brewing on Old Creamery Road in Morrisville. 8/27 (Sat) Mansfield Forehead – CANCELLED
Cancelled due to overlap with Bolton wood stack and Duck Brook hike.
Hike to the Forehead via Butler Lodge and Long Trail, returning on Maple Ridge and Frost. Has short sections of exposed and/or steep trail, and a couple ladders. Difficult hike. Moderate pace. 6 miles. 2500′ elevation gain. Group limit 12. Jonathan Breen, ghostman2651@gmail.com or 802-318-8104.
8/27 (Sat) Duck Brook Trail (rescheduled from July) – CANCELLED
By spotting a car or two, we will hike down the old long trail starting on Bolton Notch Road, past Duck Brook Shelter (3.3 miles) to Stage Road (1.2 miles.) We will stop at the falls on Duck Brook which is pretty even if conditions are somewhat dry. Note this is a downhill walk that is steep in a few sections which can be a challenge. Moderate hike. 8/28 (Sun) Camels Hump Loop
From the Monroe trailhead at the Couching Lion farm site in Duxbury, we’ll follow the Monroe and Dean trails to the Long Trail, then take the Long Trail to the summit of Camel’s Hump, and return on the Monroe Trail.
