12/4 (Sun) Mansfield Forehead via Rock Garden
Moved from 12/3 due to rain.
We’ll climb Butler Lodge Trail, then cross top Maple Ridge on Rock Garden, climb Maple Ridge to the Forehead, and return on Wampahoofus and Butler Lodge. Difficult hike. 12/4 (Sun) Stowe Pinnacle
From Pinnacle Meadows Parking area, we will follow the steep but relatively short Pinnacle Meadows Trail to the top of Stowe Pinnacle, with great views of Mt. Mansfield. Return by same trail. 12/10 (Sat) Snake Mt.
We will wall up Snake Mountain (in Addison County near Vergennes, just east of Rt. 22A.) This 2 ½ hour hike winds through a forest with a wonderful mix of trees. It is relatively flat for the first 1/2 mile then climbs steadily to a nice viewpoint facing west to Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks. The trail joins an old summit carriage road (there used to be hotel at the top) which we may take down. The almanac says the earliest sunset of the year was December 9th, so lets celebrate later sunsets! Easy to moderate hike. 4 miles. 900′ elevation gain. Ted Albers, ted@ted-albers.net.

12/11 (Sun) Butler Lodge via Nebraska Notch

12/18 (Sun) – Hunger & White Rock from Middlesex

12/18 (Sun) Mansfield Ridge Loop
We’ll park at Underhill State Park and head up to the Forehead by hiking across the CCC Road to Maple Ridge Trail up to Long Trail. From the Forehead, we’ll head north on the Long Trail along the ridge to The Chin (highest point in VT.) From The Chin we will head down the Sunset Ridge Trail with a stop at Cantilever Rock. Continuing down ‘Sunset’ we’ll head back to our vehicles, and those who want to can visit the Jericho Inn and Tavern afterwards. Difficult hike, 8.5 miles, 2495′ elevation gain.
