Section Trail work day: Wednesday, September 30

Join a GMC trail crew and other volunteers from our section on Wednesday, September 30 to help with a trail relocation on the Long Trail just north of the Clara Bow junction. This area has long been a wet spot and suffered significant damage during flooding events in recent years, so we’re moving it up off the beaver ponds. This will involve a lot of rock work, quarrying and crushing rock to help seat the larger stones. Making crush (breaking up rocks with large and small sledge hammers) is a great way to work out any frustrations you might be having! GMC’s professional trail crew is finishing out their season with 5 weeks on this project. Join us to show support for their successful season and help them finish out strong. GMC Staff will be leading and working alongside us on this project. Wear sturdy boots and bring work gloves and other stuff you’d bring for any 4 to 6 hour day hike. Tools and personal protection gear will be provided, but you can bring knee pads, safety glasses, and sledgehammers (large or small) if you have them. Contact Burlington section trail co-chair Pete Saile and GMC Volunteer & Education Coordinator Lorne Currier with questions or to sign up.
