A ski patrol warming hut built in 2003 at Bromley Mountain's 3,260-foot summit, open to Long Trail hikers in summer and fall. Owned and operated by the ski patrol rather than the Green Mountain Club, it provides shelter and rest alongside a maintained privy. The summit also features a rebuilt observation tower.
Stark's Nest is located at Mad River Glen's upper chair lift station on General Stark Mountain. Operating since 1985 through cooperation with Mad River Corporation, this summer shelter accommodates 10-12 people with caretaker supervision. Originally offering only a platform and views, it expanded to include overnight camping with amenities. A 2000 renovation added a seating area, fireplace, and interpretive displays. The shelter provides excellent east and west views and remains actively used by hikers today.
Octagon was a ski shelter built December 9, 1940, near the upper station of Mount Mansfield Chair Lifts as a warming hut. Unlike traditional hiking shelters, it featured a cafeteria for purchasing lunch. From the 1960s-1980s, it housed Summit Rangers and a ranger-naturalist during summer months. Still standing today.
Stone Hut is a 1935 Civilian Conservation Corps building on Mount Mansfield's summit ridge, constructed as a warming shelter for skiers and outdoor workers. Built of granite walls with wooden interior, it stands near the Octagon at Long Trail mile 8.8. From the 1970s onward, it served as the summer home for GMC summit caretakers (May-October) and winter ski-in/ski-out rental accommodation managed by Vermont State Parks. A December 2015 fire destroyed the wooden interior; the Carpenter family contributed $150,000 toward the $276,000 restoration, completed in 2016. The hut remains standing and operational under state ownership and management.
