Caughnawaga Shelter

Caughnawaga Shelter was a lean-to structure built in the Adirondack style by the Green Mountain Club in 1931. As the shelter aged over decades, maintenance became increasingly important to extend its serviceable life. In May 1977, the shelter underwent major repairs, with crews replacing logs in the rear wall, nailing the roof, and tarring all nail holes to prevent water infiltration and further decay. These efforts were intended to keep the structure functional for several additional years. Despite these interventions, the shelter ultimately did not survive; it was no longer standing by 2017, having been removed or having deteriorated beyond the point of repair.
