H. L. and H. E. Cross owned homes at Goshen Four Corners that offered lodging and meals to travelers. Both places were mentioned in GB 2nd Edition 1920 as having rooms and meals. The homes operated as private residences that supplemented their income by accommodating hikers and other visitors during the early twentieth century, representing one of many informal lodging options along the Long Trail during that era before the development of more formal shelter systems.
