J.B. Shannon’s

J.B. Shannon’s was a private residence accommodation located near Underhill Center on the west side of Mount Mansfield, offering excellent meals and rooms. The establishment served as a trailhead for the Forestry Trail and as a departure point for the Nebraska Notch Trail. Automobilists could drive to Shannon’s, making it a convenient staging point for hikers accessing trails to Mount Mansfield’s summit.

The home was favorite for Burlington Section members who visited for evening suppers following hikes to Butler and Taylor. The establishment operated during the early twentieth century as part of the informal network of lodges and camps that supported recreation in the Mount Mansfield region, though it did not survive to the present day.
