McLean’s Camp was a log house located west of the road, approximately 2 miles south of Johnson on the Long Trail. The camp was open for hikers, as documented in
the 1922 Long Trail Guide. The camp appears to have continued operating in the early-to-mid 1920s, as it was still listed in the 1924 guidebook edition with the same description. After this period, McLean’s Camp no longer appears in subsequent GMC guidebooks or maintenance records, suggesting it ceased operations sometime in the mid-twentieth century. The facility was superseded by other lodging options in the region, particularly Whiteface Shelter (originally Whiteface Lodge), which became the primary shelter facility on this section of the Long Trail.
