Seth Warner Shelter 2nd

The second Seth Warner Shelter was constructed two miles north of the original site, farther from the road to reduce nuisance use.

Much of the work took place in 2021 and 2022, with volunteer Jonathan Bigelow precutting the frame before a helicopter airdrop of materials in 2022.

Bigelow and other volunteers assembled the shelter kit in 2022, and the Long Trail Patrol completed final site work and cut the new spur trail early in 2023.

Jonathan Bigelow of the Manchester Section designed Seth Warner Shelter.

The new shelter is located 2.4 miles north of the old site, five miles north of the Vermont-Massachusetts border and five miles south of Congdon Shelter.

The old site (mile 3.0 of the LT northbound) has been decommissioned. The shelter features a post-and-beam architectural design with a lean-to configuration, equipped with a composting privy and a nearby water source on the Long Trail. The project was listed among major construction initiatives planned for 2022. The shelter opened for overnight use in 2023 and remains actively available to hikers today.
