Mile 15.3 — Division 10 — Elev. 3030 ft
It is located south of Sterling Pond Shelter on a short spur trail off the Elephant’s Head Trail. This frame camp was donated to the GMC in 1980 by Thomas J. Watson, Jr. of IBM. It has bunk space for 8. The GMC Sterling Pond caretaker is in seasonal residence and a small fee is charged for overnight use. It has been in use from 1980 to present [GB 24th Edition 1996]
The cabin is a spacious (21′ X 20) structure overlooking the pond arid located a stone’s throw from the LT north of Sterling Pond Shelter. [Ridge lines; Vol 10, No. 1; June 1980]


Green Mountain Valley School in Waitsfield coordinated a of strong, eager students to work with GMC’s construction team on tearing down Watson Camp. Within a week,the group removed every bit of the old shelter, from its heavy roofing material [LT News Winter 2011]
